Day 3: the Magic Kingdom almost didn't happen for me. I did come down with food poisoning the night before which almost took me out for the count. But because I don't ever want to miss anything, I tried to stick it out. We had breakfast reservations at Be Our Guest so we got to enter the park early. They only have the ferry running for the early hours so we took that over. Isn't this a lovely view?
Still can't get over that they want to hold hands....
So we got to Belle's castle and chose to sit in the West Wing because it was dark and cool and had a rose....
And this nifty portrait of the prince that turned into the beast when lightning flashed in the room. It was so cool!
Too bad I was in no position to enjoy it. While everyone else had breakfast, I shuffled my sad pathetic self over to the infirmary and took a nap.
In my absence they had a really good breakfast...
See the smile here? Guess that didn't last....
So while I was sleeping they decided to go on the new Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs Mine Car rollercoaster. Evan, like his sister, cried the entire line wait because he was so scared. When the ride was over, apparently he LOVED it and asked to go on it again! After that, they dragged me out of the infirmary to hit up a few more rides. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride is now also in Evan's favorite list, but he was too scared to go on Splash Mountain. I didn't think going on any rides was such a good idea, so I ended up watching a lot. This is the picture I took as Ally & Arron came down - it was blocked by Disney so you can't get the official photo. I suspect it's the girl strangling the guy in the back but who knows....
After this, the whole family (minus me) went on Thunder Mountain. One of my favorites, and a place I've taken some of my best photos.... but I was hiding in a gift shop instead with my eyes closed. I was in a pathetic enough state (and it was crazy hot again) that they decided to take me home and try again that night. But that lead to the first monorail ride of the trip!
After a 3 hour nap and a dip in the pool for the kids, we suited up and headed back over to try and cover some of what we missed. We started in the new ride - The Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which Ally absolutely LOVED. She just danced and giggled the whole time.
Next we hit Evan's favorite ride from the past - Dumbo. My least favorite is the one he looks forward to all day....
Ally and Grampy filmed their ride....
Next door was the Barnstormer roller coaster. This year we did it all backward - we went from the most intense coaster to the tamest - no wonder Evan thinks they are all scary! He has LOVED the tamer ones, so I wish we had done that in the right order!
If I was feeling better, this would have been a much better shot.... oh well...
Arron and Ally then broke off to do Space Mountain while Evan and Nana went to ride the motor speedway cars. He had a tough time controlling the steering so it was a really rough ride for the two of them!
Don't they look happy?
I wish I had some photos of Ally and Arron at Space Mountain, but when Arron is left in charge of photos, they aren't exactly usable. Oh well. Evan got to play with hats again while we waited to regroup.
We then hopped on the people mover. One of my favorites because you get to just sit and have a nice breeze as you ride around and see the park. About the only ride I could take tonight!
It was getting late - here is the castle at sunset from the people mover.
Which reminded the kids that we hadn't done Buzz Lightyear yet. It's another shooting ride that uses lasers and keeps score. I hate that ride - I always loose! But it got me one of my favorite pictures of Arron ever. :)
My partner in crime!
I have this same picture every year we come. It blows me away to see how much they have grown!
It got dark fast - but the park is so pretty at night. :) We did go to the Carousel of Progress and the Laugh factory before we were about to call it a night...
But the kids didn't forget the card game they got earlier in the day. They give you special cards (you can get 1 packet a day) and you use them to interact with magic stations around the park. We ran around and did one last game with the collectible sorcerer mickey cards before calling it a night, just before the fireworks started.
The kids did such a good job sharing and taking turns. Especially since everyone was exhausted!
Tomorrow: Epcot!
